SERPAT (Ergonomic Grounding System)
SERPAT: Red Eléctrica and Elewit's innovative system makes the grounding process safer and more efficient
This project, which began in 2020, has revolutionised the grounding (Puesta A Tierra - PAT) process, offering a safer, more ergonomic and efficient solution for this task in electrical substations, reducing risks and optimising the resources employed.
SERPAT makes it possible to install and remove portable grounding in a safer, more efficient, and ergonomic manner than other current grounding methods.

Grounding is a common process in the electricity sector that ensures the safety of people, protects assets, and safeguards the stability of the electricity system. The process consists of connecting the element on which an intervention will be performed to the ground to ensure that those carrying out the intervention are at no risk of electric shock.

To make the grounding process safer, Red Eléctrica and Elewit launched the SERPAT (Ergonomic Grounding System) project in 2020. This project, now a reality, offers numerous benefits for work carried out in electrical substations, such as:

  • Time saving.
  • Reducing physical strain.
  • Improving safety.
  • Optimising use of resources.
  • More precise work at height.

“At Elewit, we act as a facilitator to encourage the development of the project and ensure its long-term success,” explains Óscar García, New Ventures Manager at Elewit. It is worth noting that, throughout the project, it has been demonstrated that SERPAT makes it possible to install and remove portable grounding in a safer, more efficient, and ergonomic manner than other current grounding methods.

To achieve this, the system developed by specialised technicians requires two devices that provide greater control and require less effort from workers when installing and removing the grounding system, thereby minimising the risks associated with this activity. Furthermore, the solution can be used by other companies in the sector.
