“We are opening new markets and we would like to be able to grow hand in hand with companies committed to the environment”
#ElewitPartners Desigenia

In a sector that is becoming more and more aware of the importance of energy sustainability and efficiency, collaboration between innovative and committed companies has become a key pillar for promoting change towards a greener and more responsible future. In this context, we have the privilege of presenting this interview with Carmelo García Abásolo, director of business development at Desigenia, a company specialised in energy services using photovoltaic systems for isolated or grid-connected telecommunications stations. With their innovative products and solutions, Desigenia is firmly committed to reducing their carbon footprint and promoting more efficient and less contaminated systems.

This collaboration is key for us because together, we have carried out a project that consists of developing an auxiliary power supply system based on photovoltaic technology and batteries that allow substations to use more sustainable equipment, both from a technical and financial perspective, in accordance with Redeia’s strategic plan as a manager of essential infrastructures.

1. What is Desigenia? What are your objectives, and what is your mission? Origins and introduction

Desigenia is a company specialised in energy efficiency services that seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of its clients by replacing pollutant sources, such as diesel, with more efficient systems.
Our objective is to install efficient hybrid energy systems consisting of solar energy and/or wind energy, as well as alternative sources such as hydrogen and batteries to reduce the use of fossil fuels in situations where these generators are used 24/7. With this mission, Desigenia seeks to reduce CO2 emissions in the atmosphere and works together with companies to achieve its climate change objectives.

2. What is Desigenia’s current situation, and what type of projects is it carrying out?

Desigenia started installing these hybrid systems in telecommunications stations for the leading operators in Spain. We are now working with all operators and infrastructure managers or TowerCos. We have also moved into other countries where we have installed systems, such as Mexico, Chile and Colombia.
In addition to these systems, we have made advancements with new designs and energy system solutions for self-consumption and sites with Red Eléctrica substations, to reduce energy costs and to be assisted by solar energy. Now, we are also working on other projects, such as solar-powered containers for work sites, control access, fibre optic containers, among other things.

3. What difficulties and problems do your products and services solve?

Among the difficulties they help minimise are operational costs, maintenance, refuelling, incidents, as they are solar energy systems and batteries that require less servicing and maintenance. In addition, we have a remote control and management system that helps to prevent incidents by using warnings about component status to schedule servicing.
Having different sources of energy ensures that stations can operate continuously, because when one source is insufficient, the others compensate.

4. What is your perception of the current situation in our country in terms of environmental commitments, the ecological transition, and reducing the carbon footprint?

We believe that many companies are committed to the environment and are looking for alternative solutions to fossil fuels and reducing CO2 emissions. Although it is tricky to 100% eliminate the use of these energy sources, they are increasingly being replaced by more efficient systems. We hope that in a few years, we will be able to use more hydrogen as an alternative source, thereby reducing the use of gas and diesel.

5. What has working with Elewit meant for you?

For us, it has meant incorporating new markets. Up until now, we have worked with telecommunications operators, pylon managers, and telecommunications substations. Working with Elewit has allowed us to become more familiar with other markets, promote our solutions, and broaden our horizons.

6. How would you describe the role that companies such as Elewit play in the ecosystem?

Elewit is a platform for promoting innovation projects and it is a great ally for implementing efficient solutions. We look forward to being able to collaborate on various projects with the company and jointly come up with solutions that reduce the carbon footprint.

7. Thinking about the future, how do you see yourselves in five years?

We hope to be present in more countries, we are opening new markets and we would like to be able to grow hand in hand with companies committed to the environment and with whom we can jointly fight against climate change, with the use of 100% green energy sources, continue to implement hybrid systems with hydrogen, methanol, and seek new challenges.
