Elewit, as an innovation catalyst in Redeia, leverages internal and external talent, as well as the potential of technology to develop innovative solutions that meet the challenges in the field of electricity and telecommunications. To this end, one of the tools at its disposal is the ecosystem challenge approach, an instance for detection of rapid implementation solutions that contribute to asset revaluation, data and Redeia’s facilities as a global manager of essential infrastructures and of the companies that comprise it (Red Eléctrica, Reintel, Hispasat or Redinter). In addition, this mechanism creates new spaces for interaction and exchange with other players in the ecosystem.
Why a Data Challenge?
In some cases, when these challenges are data science oriented, they are labelled as Data Challenge and therefore, during 2023, Elewit organized one with the objective of identifying and incorporating new renewable energy production prediction providers in collaboration with Red Eléctrica's System Operation Models department, since, although there is already an extensive list of providers working in this field, it was a good opportunity to evaluate potential new collaborators in an open and agile format
What was the Data Challenge about?
This challenge called for data science enthusiasts with interest in predictive models of renewable energy production. The participants had access to a labeled Dataset of time series related different technologies, from which they had to develop a prediction model of at least one of them to be evaluated by Red Eléctrica.
The winners
The finalists of the Data Challenge in 2023 underwent a second phase of benchmarking to become prediction suppliers, an instance carried out along Red Eléctrica's current suppliers of renewable production prediction. Thus, the companies IIC-ADIC, SteadySun y NAITEC have become our suppliers of renewable generation prediction models for Red Eléctrica.
